Dear Nikki
A dry, itchy skin is a symptom of diabetes, but it could also be caused by many other factors and/or any medication you are using. If this persists, do consult a Dermatologist. Drinking water after eating a chocolate will not lower your blood sugar levels. If you are a type 1 or insulin-dependant diabetic then you need to have a diet prescription worked out for you by a dietitian and it is vital to stick to the prescription. The dietitian will indicate to you if you are allowed a piece (5g) of chocolate on certain days and how you can include it in your diet plan. But please don't eat a whole bar of chocolate and think you can dilute the effect by drinking water. Visit the Association for Dietetics in SA Website at: www.adsa.org.za and click on "Find a Dietitian" to find a dietitian in your area.
