depression

Hi doc. im 21 and been battling with depression since i was 12.
Just wanted to ask - ive been having suicidal thoughts lately. how bad is it that i am or does everyone do it once in awhile.
Also, wats actually the difference between a pscyhologist and psychiatrist and who do i see?

YOu are asking a very sensible question about your condition, but one that can only be usefully answered by a suitable expert after a proper assessment and a discussion of treatment options. It would probably be best to see at least a GP, preferably a psychiatrist in the first place. A Psychiatrist is a fully qualified doctor who then specialized in such problems ( and can thus also take into account any relevant physical aspects of the problems and can prescribe drugs ; a psychologist is trained purely in mental health and provides assessments and talking therapies, and can't prescribe drugs. Specifically CBT style counselling can be as effective as antidepressant meds in the right situation
