Hi Anon, thank you for the question.

There are three main reasons for ‘dark circles’ and the treatment is dependent on the cause:

Firstly, the appearance of a groove known as the tear trough allows the skin to fall closer to the underlying bone resulting in a shadow effect. This is best treated with a filler that lifts the skin with a resultant loss of the shadow effect.

Secondly, pigmentation in the skin can darken the area and give one the appearance of dark circles. This pigmentation may respond to topical products that specifically lighten pigmentation or one may have to consider skin rejuvenation technologies (Laser, IPL) to completely remove the pigmentation.

Thirdly, the skin may be ‘discolored’ due to a collection of superficial veins with a resultant leakage of hemoglobin in the skin. the best approach is laser vein removal and even skin rejuvenation technologies.
Occasionally we have patients that present with all three causati
