Hi Lisa
Shaking of the head can definitely be an indication of an ear infection and you will have to take your dachshund to the vet for a check-up. Dogs can get mite, yeast and bacterial infections in their ears. The vet will have to examine the ears and also make a smear of the wax in the ears to determine which of these 3 it is and what treatment is needed.

Yes, there absolutely could - dogs with long hanging ears are more prone to ear infections than others.

Such infections can be both irritating and painful to the dog, so the right thing to do is to let a vet take a look. Sometimes a kind of ''earwash'' remedy could do the trick, but sometimes something stronger is required.
