Cutting of the cake

We got married in 2009, and last year we cutted our cake and celebratedd our 1st aniversary with my in-laws in the Eastern Cape and we are left with 3 steps of the cake which I was suggesting to cut it and distribute it personally to friends and family is this advisable or must I invite them in the house and cut the cake with them, please advise.

This sounds like a matter not only of the cultural beliefs and practices of your broader cultural group, but maybe also more specifically of your family and close relatives. Have you asked them ? If there is confusion and no clarity, maybe it doesn't matter so much, and maybe consulting a sangoma or tribal or family elder who has had more experience of such matters would help decide.

To Chef as well
Doubt even with alcohol and thick icing any culture would be thrilled to be invited round for year old cake.
Here is the compromise, invite everyone over for a braai - goes down well with all cultures and ages.
But do not serve the cake even with icecream.
What do you mean about cutting the cheese or dropping the kids off at the pool......?

Hey all,

With traditional weddings -western, is that the wedding cake is usually a fruit cake, which if any of you knew, does keep..due to the alcohol content and the thick icing

As tradition has it, if the cake is tiered, the bride and groom usually keep the first tier, the small one for their first anniversary.

It might not be a psychiatric question, but there is no need to mock this person.

I would suggest you invite your family over and have the cake together!

Least she isn''t cutting the cheese or dropping the kids off at the pool...

Not sure a highly educated western professor can help you with this weird african cultural question? Ask a sangoma.
