crunches

What is the correct way to do crunches ? How high should you lift your sholders off the floor ? How long should a set of 20 crunches take ?

The main thing to avoid is 'curling', where you kind of pull up with your shoulders and neck. You have to focus on keeping your core as steady as you can, and activating the msucles you are trying to target, then you'll find that your "lift" comes from the abdominals. There's no optimal height, or speed, provided the movements are consistent and controlled. It's just important that you don't lead from the shoulders, but rather from the abs.
