Contraceptive/Hormone therapy

Dear Doc.

My friends mother place his 11 year old sister on triphasil. She started menstruating young and I think they thought it would help with with heavy periods. I am afraid of the side effects this will have and some symptoms of depressions is already there.
I can''t get involved but would like your opinion on this. I know for a fact that she has not seen a doctor or a gynae.
Thank you.
