continuous coughing

i have had a cough since december that has grown worse and worse. it seems to get worse late in evening. havent smoked or drank since end december. drinking lots of water to get rid of lots of spit in throat. everytime i cough i need to spit.
have been to throat specialist twice. given strong cough medicine first time, then antibiotics, couch medicine and anti allergenics the second time. medication seemed to be working second time round but on the last two days of before end of medication i began to cogh again. whenever i cough the spiot is clear and i do not have a post nasal drip. making appointment for x rays, but would like a possible opinion please.

You can expect a productive cough for at least 12 weeks after smoking cessation. As the structures in the lungs heal, your symptoms will normalise.
