constipation

young male 20 years old
1. can lower back injury L4/5 and L5/S1 lumbar spine and constipation have set him up for a rectal prolapse.
2. Does pain medication cause constipation?
3. can constipation set you up for a rectal prolapse?

Certain types of pain medication, especially those that contain codeine can cause severe constipation and this in turn can cause rectal prolapse. Refer to the following article regarding rectal prolapse: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rectal_prolapse
