Constipated

Dear Doc, I am very constipated, I must take a laxative to help me. I have had this problem for a very long time. Is it wise to go for a colonscopy or should I first use medication.
Thank You

Hallo Worried
There are a few basic things one would do first e.g. a rectal examiniton, an abdominal x/ray, review of possible medications that can cause constipation, dietician consultation. If the doctor thinks that there may be a lesion or disease in the colon he may want you to go for a barium enema or a colonoscopy.
