Colectomy

Hi, Doc

Is having diarrhea normal after having a colon removed 3 years ago?

What to do? (medication, diet...)

Thank you

Hallo Anon
You may have loose stools after removal of part of the colon as water is re-absorbed especially in the sigmoid area of the colon. It may help to use something like Fybogel Orange daily to absorb some of the excess water. Just also ask your doctor to send a stool sample to the lab if you think it may be an infection (slimy, bloody or very smelly diarrhoea) You can also keep a food diary to see if certain foods tend to cause more loose stools or gas than others.
