COLD SORES

Hi,
My daughter of 16 has been battling with cold sores for a while now. She will get them all over her lips - we have used the normal lip salve (Activir) from the chemist and we got some pills from Dischem for cold sores.
The problem is that it will clear up for a week or so and then just return?
What would be be reason for this?
Please help the teenager and the mother needs help!

Hallo Lydia
Next time she gets it ask your doctor to prescribe a course of antiviral medication like Zovirax within 24 hours of the outbreak starting. Cold sores are caused by a herpes virus and if you treat it quickly enough it may kill the virus and prevent further outbreaks
