Hallo Mark
LDL Cholesterol < 2.5 mmol/L is the treatment target level for high risk patients
LDL Cholesterol < 3.5 mmol/L is the ideal level in normal risk patients
Increased levels indicate increased cardiovascular risk.
Treatment is justified if LDL >4.0 mmol/L in combination with heart disease, diabetes, renal disease, familial hypercholesterolaemia, familial combined hyperlipidaemia OR in combination WITH TWO of the following:
HDL < 1 mmol/L, hypertension, overweight, smoking, impaired fasting glucose or glucose intolerance, microalbuminuria with renal impairment or age greater than 45 years.
