Cervical Cancer

Hi Docter,

In early 2006 I was diagnosed with cervical cancer and I underwent a operation cutting a layer of my cervix away. I have since had a baby, and my gynae told me that I have to have a pap smear every 6 months, because I fall in the high risk category. It is costing me a fortune every six months, (no med aid), and I have not tested positive since.

Is it neccesary to still go every 6 months for a pap smear?

Many thanks

If you have completely normal smears for more than year, you can go once a year. If you are HIV +ve, you should go more often.

Best wishes
