Breastfeeding and nipple shields

Hi Gynae Doc,
I have been struggling with rather bad nipple pain, due to incorrect latching when I first started feeding (3weeks ago). To give my nipples a chance to heal,I have started using nipple shields. I am wondering if the shields decrease the amount of milk going into my baby's mouth as she seems to want to feed for about 14 mins whereas without the shield she would be sated at 9 -11mins...
Thanks for your help.
