Breastfeeding and medication

I am giving birth in a month, and would love to breastfeed. I am currently using 50g of Degranol per day. Will this be a problem?

Dear Anya
Carbamazepine and its metabolites are found in breast milk. The manufacturer does not recommend use while breast-feeding. However, it is rated as "compatible" in breast-feeding. Benefit:risk ratio usually favors continued use during pregnancy and breast-feeding but first discuss with your personal doctor.
