brandsiek - 9mde oue hond

My 9mde oue boerboel / bullmastiff het brandsiek.

My 9 year old daughter brought Scraffy that is the dogs name back for school. Apparently the dog came for the location and nobody could look after him. We think he has brand sick, because he does not have hair there. We are living in Paterson where we do not have a vet. We don' t want to leave the poor thing on the streets.
What can we do to get him healthier with limited resources. Please mail me urgently of fax 086 530 9332. HELP will be appreciated!!!! Lynn is already very attached to this dog. PLEASE GIVES HELP SOON!!!!!!!!!!!

Many dogs carry mange mites or infection without exhibiting any symptoms, and then transfer the infection to their puppies.
Must say, any ' Animal Welfare'  that euthanazes infected dogs as a matter of routine should perhaps operate under another name. Welfare is hardly the right word for such an organisation.

I am involved in Animal Welfare and work regularly with animals with mange (" brandsiek" ). If you are referring to Dectomax (the injection), yes, it does work very well, but is not actually registered for use on dogs. Not safe on sheepdogs.

I have to agree that I have never seen mange on a healthy, well kept dog.
There may be exceptions, but it is usually a sign of neglect or an underlying problem. When doing clinics, we generally euthanaze animals over 6mtns with mange, because of that.

I have taken in " foster"  dogs with mange, but my own pets have never been infected, because I take good care of them.
It is unacceptable to breed with an infected dog, in my opinion.

Canis, perhaps you should read up some more?

SIES man!
