BP readings

My BP readings on 29 July 09 were: Max Systollic - 128 MMhg
Minimum Diastolic - 87 mmHg.

On 31 July '  09 they were: Max Systollic - 153 mmHg Min Diastolic - 96 mmHg

Is this normal? Can I become hypertensive in such a short space of time? The results are from the machine at the gym before exercises.

Hi Thabo

That second reading is high, and is a sign that maybe you should be going for subsequent monitoring. The tricky thing about BP is that it does vary quite a lot, so you could go three times a day and find that the BP changes quite a bit. However, if it's high, then I would suggest that you go for follow up testing and maybe have four or five measurements per day, and check if there is any reason to consider treating for high BP.

Good luck
