Blood tests during pregnancy

With my first pregnancy I went for blood tests at around 16 weeks to check for down syndrome etc. With my last visit to the gynae, he checked a fold in the baby' s neck and said that it' s normal and that the baby won' t have down syndrome, he didn' t say anything about going for blood tests after that
Is that how they check nowadays or is it better to do the tests?

The nuchal translucency, which is what you had done, is more commonly done now and is more accurate.
