Dear Linear
Sometimes if someone has an infection like a pneumonia or kidney infection, the infection may spread via the blood to other organs - this is called septicemia and very dangerous, as they can develop organ failure, brain abcesses etc. Doctors usually take blood cultures to identify the organism and then treat very specifically for this infection while supporting the kidneys, lungs, heart and brain.
A septicemia can be caused by bacteria, fungi or viruses.
