Dear Ms D
Blackheads, also known as open comedones, are pores that have a wider than normal opening. They are filled with plugs of sebum ( skin oil) and dead cells and have undergone a chemical reaction with air resulting in the typical black color. Best way to get rid of them is to have them professionally removed at a beauty salon. You should clean once-a-day with a mild soap or facial scrub to aid in the removal of excess oil and dead skin cells. Oil-based makeup should not be used since these can contribute to the buildup of oil in the follicles. Try Benzoyl peroxide which has an antibacterial effect and may also decrease the chemical reaction that changes the lining of the pore and prevent further plugging.
