Biting tongue during night

I am a male 36 years of age. I have bitten and injured my tongue a few times while sleeping at night. It is not a regular occurance however it happened a few times. It is quite painful when this happens and heels no problem afterwards.
Is there anything to worry about, why is this happening?

It is possible that you are grinding your teeth at night. This is nothing to be concerned about but you can consult your dentist for an evaluation and a mouthguard to wear at night.
