Biofeedback ALONE is very old-fashioned, but can be effective and works FAR better as part of a CBT-oriented approach. The contribution of biofeedback is simply by giving you a gadget that measure some bodily component of anxiety so you can be more easily aware of how anxious you are, while learning by various CBT-type techniques to reduce your anxiety levels - the biofeedback gadget confirming that you are relaxing when you do so. The gadget is like a blood pressure machine - it does nothing in itself to lower your BP, just confirms whether whatever else you are doing, is indeed lowering it.
I prefer helping the person to enhance their own awareness of the different components of their anxiety while they learn to lower anxiety levels - cheaper, portable, and you don't need batteries !
