Binge eating

Hi Doc

I have a problem with binge eating, mostly during the night. I binge on sweet things, such as chocolate, cake, cookies, etc or muesli. I would then usually " redeem myself"  by running hard/fast at the gym - about 12km a day, at least. Now I have a pulled groin muscle and can''t run.. :-( I''m so afraid of a binge happening but I feel so powerless to stop myself! I am desperately looking for advice about how to modify my behavioural patterns regarding eating. I can''t tie the binging to any specific emotion but I know that it happens more easily when I''m feeling down/stressed.

Please help me...

Binge eating is almost always related to an emotional or stress issue. Sweet and starchy foods create a boost of serotonin which is something we instinctively crave when we are unhappy or not dealing with stress. You may want to consider a program that deals with this specific issue as it involves a process of looking at your triggers and creating alternative behaviors. Check out www.reinventhealth.co.za
