Well, that depends what you're trying to get out of it. If you are trying to build muscle, then three sets of 8 reps will do. If you're trying to tone, then 3 sets of 12 to 15 reps is a good place to start. Obviously, you'd use a lighter weight for the second option, and what that weight is is up to you to work out. It has to be heavy, but not limiting, whereas if you are doing 3 sets of 8 reps, then you might want to use a weight that causes you to just about fail on the last rep.
