Basal Thermometer

My husband and I are wanting to have a baby, however, my cycle length differs from month to month, and I don' t always know when I' m ovulating.

Would a basal thermometer be the a good way to know when I am ovulating? Would it only tell me on the actual day of ovulation, or before? Do I buy a basal thermometer at the chemist? Or is an ovulation kit better?

You can try a thermometer but this technique is quite tricky as the temperature change is very small. An ovulation kit might be better.
