barbell or dumbell

Apparently when you use machines after a while your stonger arm/muscle takes over, would this be the same with barbells, would using dumbells be more beneficial.

Hi Jack

Using the dumbbells does isolate the muscle more, obviously. However, remember that with a barbell, you'll be using both arms for control and stability, so there is certainly some merit to using them. I'd say a mix of the two is good - you'll feel that when you do something like a bicep curl with the bar and the dumbbell - they are best used together.
