Bad sleep pattern

I am actually asking this on behalf of my dad.
He hasn''t been able to sleep well for a few years now.
he doesnt drink and avoids coffee. he has a regulare (like clockwork) bed time and always gets up at the same time. however he will fall asleep at 10 and wake up at 12 or 1 and then not sleep for the res tof the night.
He does take some perscribed sleep medication however he will then wake up at 2 instead of 1.

This pattern is typical of depression, but it can happen with other conditions as well. He needs to see a sleep doctor.
