Dear Berni

Use a very good quality dry food like Hills, Ultradog, Eukanuba, Vets Choice, Royal Canin for pups. Very important for the first year. Buy protexin from vet or vetshop and give for 3-4 weeks as per instructions. Worming also needs to be up to date.

Little pups often have loose stools, and it' s important to differentiate between this and actual diarrhea.

If the stools are watery, if the pup goes OFTEN but produces only a bit, if there' s any blood involved, or if the pup seems uncomfortable, then you need to take it seriously and maybe see the vet.

But if it' s just normal poo that happens to be a bit on the thin side, and if it' s produced only a few times a day - mostly after meals - then don' t worry too much.

I find that the Lennon' s dutch remedy called Behoedmiddel is quite handy to have around when there' s a puppy in the house - you can give it the same amount as for a baby, it won' t do any harm, and it can settle their tums. Don' t give it all the time, only if you feel maybe the pup' s a bit crampy or colicky. (You might like to get a syringe at the same time, it' s easier to squirt it in the side of the pup' s mouth that way).
