Astrocytom

Hi,

Does a low grade astrocytom/brain tumor (grade 1 or 2) always progress to a grade 3 or 4 and if so, are there any stats available regarding this.

Regards,

Alex

Dear Alex
Low-grade astrocytic tumours are usually slow-growing and are not likely to spread. Grade 1 astrocytic tumours can be removed with surgery, and are unlikely to come back if they have been completely removed. Grade 2 tumours can sometimes be removed but may come back after surgery.
There are currently quite a few clinical trials running worldwide testing new drugs for the treatment of glioma (asterocytoma)
