Anal Sacks

Hi!

I have a maltese-X. She is about 4 years old. She never had a problem with her anal glands until a few months ago. She licks under her tail excessively and the smell is terrible! I started to get the glands clean every time she goes to the groomers - its about every month and a half, but it seems to be too long period cause the glands soon start smelling again. How frequnetly can I get the glands cleaned?

I''ve read that a high fibre diet should help, but my maltese has a very sensitvie skin. She was on Hill Sensitive Skin, but she didn''t liked it that much. A few months ago I changed to Royal Canine Poodle which she loves, but now she has this gland problem. What can I feed her to give her more fibre keeping her skin condition in mind?

Any advice will be appreciated!!

Hi Katie

The glands can be expressed weekly if necessary. Youneed t bulk out the diet as anal gland problems are associated with modern living and our dependancy on commercial diets. Try and bulk out the diet with grated carrot.

As this problem is becoming very frequent why not consider getting th anal glands surgically removed
