Anaemia

Can iron deficiency specifically cause a rapid heart rate/tiredness if I go hiking up hills creating significant physical exertion? I know my iron is currently very low and I don''t usually get breathless on hikes.

Yes, an iron deficiency can cause these symptoms. Remember anaemia, due to an iron deficiency, is only a symptom and not a diagnosis. I suggest that you consult your doctor, in order for him/her to investigate the cause.
