Acupuncture

Dear Doc. Would like to find out if acupuncture really does make a difference during IVF? If so, when during the IVF cycle should one have it done? Can you go to any acupuncturist or does it have to be someone specific. Thank you!

Dear J

The use of acupuncture and in-vitro fertilization is somewhat controversial. There are some articles that say it makes a difference in improving the outcome while others say it makes no difference and a more recent article showing that it may be detrimental. Acupuncture is done on the day of aspiration and repeated on the day of transfer. You should go to an acupuncturist who has some knowledge about the use of acupuncture in infertility.
