If your friend is on TB treatment for at least 7 days, she is no longer contageous. Sputum tests should be done when you experience symptoms of TB, like a chronic cough, weight loss and night sweats.

If the bacteria is present in the sputum, she is contagious. Remember TB, it can take up to 3 to 4 weeks or even up to 6 weeks, before she is no longer contagious, after starting with treatment. She can have weekly tests done, to determine if she is still contagious or not.
