Q.

9 year old make up and high heels

How do I delicately deal with a step daughter son moving back to our town that is way too grown up, and allowed to be according to her mother. Make up, short skimpy skirst and high heels she trips in every second step. I do not permit that when she visits. I still believe little girls should dress and act accordingly, not trying to be like Mommy. HELP! My husband says she is being creative, I don t buy it.

It is not up to you to decide what she may or may not wear (unfortunate I know, I''m in the exact same position). All of us have different parenting styles and ideas of what is acceptable or not. It is up to her mom and dad how they raise her.
Like Maria said, buy her some appropiate clothes and leave it her closet (don''t force her to wear it).

It sounds really over the top, but it''s up to the girl''s parents to decide what they find acceptable or not. My advice would be to just ignore the clothes and treat her like a normal 9 year old. Play age appropriate games, go for walks (and let her trip without comment), play in the park. Buy some more comfortable clothes if you want to and just leave them in the room where she sleeps when she visits, and see what happens. If you show acceptance then she might eventually feel comfortable enough with you to come out from behind the facade.

Try not to be affected. I think it is nothing personal so do not take it personal. Your definition " Way too Grown Up"  may be subjective. Maybe this is just a phase that will pass and not progress to Old Age. Lighten up as you would with your own child. It is however normal to scrutinize steps so do not feel bad
