4yr old Bites

My 4yr old has recently started biting his older sister. I have spoken with him about this and he has been punished for it but still continues. His sister has 3 large bit marks on her lower lelegs. It normally happens when we are not present. Why would he suddenly start this? Could he be seeing this at his school? How do I stop him from biting?

Interesting, that the general advice seems to be to bute back. I suppose it illustrates to the biter how unpleasant and pointless the biting is. He could indeed be learning this at school, where such youngsters can be greatly impressed by forms of naughtiness demonstrated by other kids

Is the older sister teasing him and frustrating him to the point where he can''t fight back and the only way he can respond is by biting?

Biting back won''t help. Keep on removing treats and giving time outs and it will stop - and stop the older sister from teasing and frustrating him if that is what she is doing.

Sibling rivalry could also be the cause, my husband''s brother used to bite him because he was jealous of the attention being given to his new sibling.

My l/o also used to bite, I found out he was learning this from pre-school. he would come home and bite me, I would speak to him about it, it never worked so I started biting him back, needless to say he never liked it and stopped after i''d bite him. the way I see it you don''t want to listen then you must feel.
