We have come a very long way, a difficult long way. My son is almost 5, diagnosed with ADHD and ODD also at 3.5 years and no, this is not too early to be diagnosed. My son is currently using Ephipramine and Risperdal at night to calm him down and to make him sleepy to have a good nights rest wich is very important and might be the cause in your sons outbursts as he hasnt rested well enough. In the morning he takes Concerta which is better than Ritalin for younger children. Ritalin is an exellent product, it only got bad publicity once. You only read and hear about the negative effects and how parents dont approve, but you never read and hear about what a great product it is indeed, if used correctly and prescribed by a Doctor that knows what he is doing as Ritalin are being prescribed left and right by so many doctors today, without kids being diagnosed first. At Dischem there is a brand called ADDaway with a chewable vitamin, Omega chewables etc. Cut out sugar as much as you can, nothing wrong with a sweet here and there. Caffeine is a definate NO. Give snacks like Droewors, Biltong, Nuts, Dried Fruit, Yogurt, dry porriage. Rather buy Xillitol (sugar substitute). Looks just like sugar. Use it over porriage and in tea. Hopes this helps. Reply to Lisa Posted by: Eric | 2012/04/11 Well I am no doctor but I am very well informed on ADHD as well as Autism and I have to say that this is too early to diagnose ADHD properly. And this is very heavy medication for a 4 year old. I think you urgently need a second opinion and maybe even a third. Medications that you mention are fine when used correctly but this seems a lot although you do not mention all his symptoms and his doses. Epilum is often used for mood control and to stabilise epileptic fits. Risperdal is often used for anxiety and obviously Ritalin to help concentration. You mention outbursts do you mean anger and melt-downs? anyway I think you should also investigate him possibly having Autism.... Reply to Eric Want to comment?
