Q.

1st birthday party

My little one is turning one soon. It seems like everyone has the hugest bday parties for the children, themed, at a venue, designer cakes, invites etc.

I seriously feel like having such a low key " party"  if you can even call it that. Its not like he has a lot of friends, seeing that he is 1, so we thought of inviting a few close friends and family.

Is there anything wrong with that?

No offence but I have never ever met anybody that has ever remembered their own First birthday party!

The idea of a birthday party is so that the child can enjoy the day, be the special person, spend time and play with friends, and of course REMEMBER the day!

Have a low key party, because you still have many birthdays ahead of you where you will be able to throw the best parties. You think everybody throws big parties, but trust me when I say that they do it because everyone else does. But if you throw a low key party then people will actually appreciate it more, and you might find more mommies doing the same in the future :-)

Good luck!!!

With both my kids we had a small braai with cake, and only our friends!! As long as they get a lot of attention, it will be perfect in their eyes!!!

I think a small party for a 1 year old is better than a big one. They may get overwhelmed with all the people, bright decorations noise etc.

Close friends and family over for some tea and cake is perfect in my opinion

Nothing wrong with having a ''low key party" .
Yes turning 1 is wonderful for you as parents and family. But 1 is really very young " small"  and your baby wont remember anything and would really not care if it is a big party or small party. Have something small, take photos for the " album"  at least when much older your child will see he/she had a 1st birthday party. Lets face it kid''s at 1 yr old really dont even know diferrence between a big cake small cake who pitch for the party or not. Or even Barnie, Snow white, or whatever theme! So rather save your money for parties to come!
