Nestlé SA recalls coffee

Nestlé South Africa on Thursday announced the voluntary recall of its Alta Rica, Cap Colombie and Espresso soluble coffee range.

These were specialty varieties of Nescafé contained in a specific type of 100g glass jar with a distinctive plastic sleeve, the company said in a statement.

"It was discovered that some of these jars may be susceptible to breakage during the delivery process to customers and may contain small pieces of glass."

The company said the quality and safety of its products was "a non-negotiable priority".

Voluntary recall

Consequently, as a precautionary measure, it had decided to voluntarily recall the specialty range.

"We will be changing the packaging format before we reintroduce this coffee range to the market."

Consumers in possession of these products could call Nestlé SA's Consumer Call Centre on 086-009-6116 (South Africa) or +27-11-889-6116 (Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland).

"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and we would like to reassure our consumers that none of our other coffee products are affected," Nestlé SA said. - (Sapa, May 2010)
