International anxiety about the quality of Chinese products has hit the red-alert button.
In South Africa, it has reached the point where leading supermarket chain Pick ’n Pay has warned suppliers about the dangers of importing products from China. All Pick ’n Pay suppliers must now report comprehensively on safety procedures set in place to ensure that products and unprocessed goods have undergone strict testing.
The warning has been prompted by global reports on the unsafe food-processing and product-manufacturing procedures applied in China, triggering widespread product recalls.
