Besides the fact that blowing into a tissue every few minutes is pretty annoying and disruptive, it's obviously an indication that you're coming down with something.

Now, is it a cold or is it the flu?

Since both are common in winter and caused by viruses we often confuse the one with the other. Well, it's time to get it right.

Though the symptoms are similar there is a huge difference between a cold and influenza - for one, influenza can kill you.

Look out for the difference in these symptoms to know whether your sniffles should be scaring you:

1. Fever
A major difference between a cold and the flu is your body temperature. A high fever (often reaching 39 to 40 degrees Celsius) with chills, lasting two to three days is a common symptom of the flu while it's very rare if you've got a cold.

2. Aching muscles
If you've got the aches, you've probably got the flu. It's unusual that a cold would cause pain or aching muscles.

Have a look at the full list of key differences between these blighters to know if you've got a cold or the flu.
