Romance is dead, long live fear

We all love romance and laughing, so romantic comedies are really great to watch. But too many hours spent watching canoodling hijinx can actually be quite detrimental to your own, non-Hollywood, relationship.

According to US psychologist Patrick Hatt, rom-coms place unrealistic expectations on your own relationship that can lead to unnecessary strife. No, your husband is unlikely to dramatically quit his high-powered job just to spend another minute with you, and no, your wife probably isn’t going to do that arrive-wearing-nothing-but-a-trenchcoat thing.

Normal-people relationships do settle down after the initial spark fades, and this is totally fine. Instead of trying to force some Hollywood happy ending Rather get a horror movie and take comfort in each other’s arms during the scary scenes.
