Protect ageing skin

During the natural ageing process, skin becomes thinner and the layer of fat beneath it thins, says the US National Library of Medicine. Ageing skin also becomes less sensitive to sensations of touch, pressure, vibration and temperature. As the skin loses this sensitivity, injuries to the skin become more likely.

Take action:

Since many skin changes are linked to sun exposure, use a quality sunscreen when outdoors, even in the winter. Dehydration increases the risk of skin injury, so be sure to drink plenty of water and eat balanced, healthy meals. Use a lotion to keep skin moist, but don't use a lotion or soap that's heavily perfumed.
