• Don’t train like crazy, thinking that the extra kilometres and hours will make all the difference – it will simply tire you out;
• don’t change your carbohydrate drink at this stage – stick to what you've been using the past few weeks;
• don't eat only carbs for the next four days – follow a balanced diet, including a variety of foods; don’t get drunk the night before the cycle tour;
• don't leave picking up your race number for the last minute; and don’t buy new equipment/clothing and use it on the ride – only ride in tried-and-tested clothes on a tried-and-tested bike.
