For years we’ve been told how important it is to keep ourselves topped up with fluids. It’s good for your kidneys, it’s good for your skin, it’s good for your digestive system and so on. It’s a rare desk these days that doesn’t have a permanent water bottle on it.

Rarely do we stop to wonder if we aren’t just drinking enough water, we’re drinking too much. Certainly this isn’t a problem for most people, but there are those among us whose over-hydration carries with it serious health risks. This is especially true with keen exercisers, with over a dozen runners dying of it in recent years.
