Heart, lungs, skin, eyes. We often fall into the trap of thinking of our body as a whole mess of different, distinct parts when really it isn’t like that at all. The body works as one combined whole, with every part affecting numerous other parts and you would do well to remember that.
This has been highlighted by a recent study linking probiotics to blood pressure. Probiotics can be taken as pills but are also commonly found in yoghurt. There is a wealth of research showing how the bacteria found in these supplements helps to maintain a healthy digestive system and prevent problems like diarrhoea and minimise the impact of certain food intolerances.
However, a recent review looked at 9 studies focusing on an unintended effect of taking regular probiotics, lower blood pressure. While the study concluded that more research was needed into the exact mechanism behind the change, it appears that the bacteria may work to boost levels of good cholesterol while removing the bad varieties.
