Eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables per day, dieticians say. But what if you're on a shoestring budget? There are ways to get good quality veggies at affordable prices.
Buy in season
Vegetables are usually at their best quality and price at the peak of the season; check for characteristic signs of freshness such as bright, lively colours and crispness.
Don’t buy in bulk
The nutrient content will decline as the vegetables become older and you'll be getting less value for money if you're eating half old fruits.
Make smart fruit and veg choices and know how much vegetables you should really be eating.
