There is so much noise about low carb, high fat and high protein diets that it's no wonder people are asking all over again: just how do I lose weight!
Long ago it was by simply going low fat and starving yourself while exercising like a demon.
A short while ago it was made easy by simply cutting down on carbs and, more recently, by eating lots of healthy fats supplemented by veg that grew above the ground - no exercise required. For weightloss they all worked, at least for a while.
Now new research from Stellenbosch University says that going low carb is no better for weight loss than simply following a balanced diet, and they have 3209 guinea pigs to prove it. We guess it depends on whose research you're going to read this week...
We have a nifty analysis of this research from the Association for Dietetics who, among others, are desperate for us to return to a balanced way of eating to achieve optimum weight and health.
But our favourite nutrition story this week is from our very own DietDoc who explains in simple terms how being omnivores allowed our ancestors to evolve into modern man.
Enough said - back to our roots!
