Criticism happens, get over it!

Hearing your boss disapprove of your work can be a blow to the ego. It may just be worse than running into an old friend that keeps telling you how much weight you've gained, except that you have to spend the whole day with them.

Negative feedback is never easy to accept, it can leave you feeling angry and fragile, and the old rhyme 'sticks and stones...' does not always lift the discomfort one may experience after criticism. But, we think we may have the answer.

Here's how to deal with any potentially stinging comment so that it doesn't cripple you socially and emotionally:

1. Breathe
Stepping away from what you consider to be an insult gives you time to cool off and gain perspective, so you can respond appropriately.

2. Pinpoint the emotions underneath
Identifying the root of your emotions can help separate your feelings from the situation - so you can process the comment objectively.

We have a full list with tips on how to get over humiliation and hostility after criticism.
