Can’t sleep? Us neither. Isn’t it just the worst? Grrrrr.

Reaching for the sleeping tablets? Fair enough, but it can be a slippery slope. Too strong a dose and you could wake up feeling like you’ve been hit by a train. Too little and your problems won’t go away. Or they’ll work fine but as soon as you stop taking them you can wave goodbye to your new found doziness.

Don’t panic. Sleep is a delicate process affected by a multitude of things. Sleeping pills might give your brain the knockout blow it needs, but solving problems from the bottom up is always a better idea.

Start with your diet. Are you getting enough magnesium? It’s quite possible you aren’t and this mineral is essential in helping your muscles relax. Not enough and your muscles stay tense, preventing you from drifting away.

And that’s just one of a handful of little tweaks that can make all the difference in helping you get the much needed zzzz’s.
